Football, Football, Football . . .

Monday, 3 October, 2016:

Talk about a busy day!

Enrique Martín Alonso picked me up at 9:30 a.m. for the 40 mile drive north of Madrid to his parents' home in the rustic mountain town of La Cabrera.

Enrique's folks, Enrique Sr. and Teresa, were a delight and were marvelous hosts. Our new coach, Jesús Sánchez, is temporarily staying in Enrique's brother Ricardo's home which is next door to Enrique Sr. and Teresa's.

We would eventually head back to Madrid to meet with the manager of one of our sponsors, the Altafit Gym. Besides getting a guided tour of their new and impressive facility, we also were setting up dates to hold team testing sessions in the near future.

Cañas is a Spanish term for a small beer. Every month, it turns out, Altafit sponsors a beer night for their patrons.

Good Marketing.

After a stop at the Decathlon Sporting Goods mega-store in Rivas, we stopped by another team sponsors place for a football meeting. It was a restaurant and was good for yet another typically long Spanish meal.

At 7:00 p.m., it was time for the Osos Rivas Junior Team practice. Although this was to be a 90 minute workout, many of the coaches had to leave at 8:00 p.m. to drive across Rivas to a meeting room to be witness to Jesús Sánchez's first meeting with his new club.

He killed it!

Thanks to Jesús' vision and concrete commitment to building a PROGRAM and not just coaching for a season, every Oso, including me, left the building walking a little taller with the faith and hope of the good days to come.

Tuesday promises to be another football crazy day and . . .

. . . I LOVE IT!

IT'S GREAT TO BE AN OSO!
