Do Little Wednesday

Wednesday, 25 February, 2015:

Did you ever have one of those days where you just didn't want to leave the house? Today was one of those days for me.

I decided to stay in La Hacienda looking at more Barcelona Búfals game videos, watch a Sherlock Holmes video from the Biblioteca and read a book set during the Spanish Civil War written by some guy named Hemingway.

In the late afternoon, armed with our defensive game plan, I was indeed out of La Hacienda for the evening's two practices.

Sunset at 6:30 p.m. before
the Junior practice

Tonight, now that the last of our donated used American football equipment boxes from Ventura County high schools had arrived, we were finally able to distribute gear to needy players for them to keep.

Omar's New Gear

This picture was posted by our RB known simply as Omar, no last names needed just like at an A.A. meeting. On his post he happily commented that, for the first time in his six year playing career, he finally owned his own helmet and shoulder pads.

 Solid Junior practice tonight

Our 2-0 Juniors play their first game since December 21st this Saturday at home against the 2-0 Mallorca Voltors.

These long stretches between games at the lower levels of EuroBall are the game's backbreakers in my opinion. In player's minds the fact that we don't have a game for a month or more at times means only one thing, skip practice.

We haste been getting 9-12 Juniors at practice since that long ago last game until this week. With a game this week, we are getting 18-20 players at the workouts. To review, the Juniors play full contact, nine-man American football.

Seniors' Practice Field Tonight

This is the field at the University of Murcia's Estadio Monte Romero. Besides being the Seniors' practice field, it is also the game field for all Cobras Seniors, Juniors and Cadets games.

In my now sixty seasons of playing and coaching American football, it is easily the worst playing surface I've encountered.

But it is our field and we know where every rut, hole and quicksand spot is on our beloved home turf!

Tonight's defensive oriented practice with the Seniors was a good one.

Cobra Pride was in evidence tonight.

More days . . .
